Your Accounts
Every place your money lives, in one view.
An account in Flow represents anywhere your money lives. Before you can record transactions, you need at least one account.
Account types
Cash
Physical money — your wallet, cash in hand.
Bank
A bank account. Checking, current, savings at a bank.
Credit
A credit card. Balance = how much you currently owe.
Savings
A savings goal or dedicated savings account.
Crypto
Any cryptocurrency — BTC, ETH, and others.
Credit accounts work differently
A positive balance on a credit account means you owe that amount — it's debt, not savings. Flow displays credit balances in red to make this clear.
When you record an expense on a credit account, your balance goes up (more debt). When you make a payment toward your credit card, record it as a transfer from your bank account to your credit account — this reduces the balance.
Active vs. inactive accounts
Every account has an active status. Active accounts appear in your dashboard and analytics. Inactive accounts are hidden from your day-to-day views but their full history is preserved.
Use inactive status for accounts you've closed or no longer use but want to keep the history for.
Multiple currencies
You can have accounts in different currencies. Each account has its own currency set when you create it. Analytics show totals in context — see Net Worth for how multi-currency balances are handled.
