Spending by Category
Find out exactly where your money goes.
By-Category analytics answer the question: what am I actually spending on?
How it works
Select a date range and a type (income or expense). Flow adds up every transaction in that period and groups them by category, showing:
- Total amount per category
- Percentage of the overall total
The result tells you exactly what slice of your spending (or income) each category represents.
Example breakdown
For a month of expenses:

Uncategorized
Transactions without a category are grouped under Uncategorized. A large uncategorized percentage means you're missing context — go back and assign categories to those transactions.
The goal is to keep Uncategorized below 5% so your breakdown is meaningful.
Using it to find leaks
Run by-category for the last three months in a row. Compare the percentages:
- Is Food & Drink growing? Maybe delivery apps are adding up.
- Are subscriptions increasing? You may have forgotten about a few.
- Is Shopping spiking one month? That was the sale you "saved money" on.
Compare this with Trends to see the same pattern month-over-month.
